R.I.P.: The "Out of Office" Auto-Reply

It always gives me a chuckle when I get an "Out of Office" auto-reply email. I think to myself, who
isn't out of the office? I'm not against the auto-reply, but these days it should be more of a "status update" (and you Facebookers certainly have lots of practice). But employ the basic concept which I try to remind people of, which is "relevant authenticity". It would do me more good to know that you can't respond to my email because you are "elbows deep in a sloppy, two-handed, chili dog, and can't even think of touching your blackberry" than telling me "I'm out of the office until...". If however you are going to be in one of the few locations left on the planet which is devoid of some type (even oh-my-2G!) cellular service, then tell me that. Perhaps there's even "a map for that". But tell me something which is both relevant and authentic about
